How UV Resistant is PET Braided Sleeving? ISO 4892-2 1000-Hour Test Results
Outdoor wire harnesses are continuously exposed to sunlight, ultraviolet (UV) radiation, heat, humidity and changing weather conditions. Over time, conventional PET braided sleeving may become brittle, crack or lose mechanical strength, reducing its ability to protect cables.
To provide a more reliable solution for demanding outdoor applications, MJ FLEX has developed a new UV Resistant PET Braided Sleeving, which has successfully passed the ISO 4892-2 1000-hour Xenon Arc accelerated weathering test.
What is ISO 4892-2?
ISO 4892-2 is an internationally recognized standard for evaluating the weather resistance of plastic materials using Xenon Arc lamps.
Unlike simple UV exposure tests, Xenon Arc testing simulates the combined effects of:
(1) Natural sunlight
(2) Ultraviolet radiation
(3) Temperature
(4) Humidity
(5) Moisture (water spray)
Because it closely reproduces real outdoor environments, ISO 4892-2 is widely used to evaluate the long-term durability of plastics used in automotive, electrical, industrial and outdoor applications.
Why is UV Resistance Important for PET Braided Sleeving?
PET braided sleeving is widely used to protect wire harnesses and cables. However, prolonged UV exposure can gradually damage polymer materials.
Without adequate UV resistance, braided sleeving may experience:
Surface brittleness
(1)CrackingFor applications installed outdoors or in environments exposed to sunlight, UV resistance is a critical factor in ensuring long-term reliability.
Test Conditions
Our UV resistant PET braided sleeving was evaluated under the following conditions:
Test Standard: ISO 4892-2Following exposure, the product was evaluated for:

The results demonstrate excellent weather resistance, with only a slight reduction in mechanical properties after prolonged UV exposure. The product retained 90% of its maximum tensile force and 94.2% of its elongation at break, indicating outstanding durability and flexibility for long-term outdoor use.
Typical Outdoor Applications
UV Resistant PET Braided Sleeving is suitable for applications where cables and wire harnesses are exposed to sunlight or harsh environments, including:
Automotive wire harnessesWhy Choose MJ FLEX UV Resistant PET Braided Sleeving?
Compared with standard PET braided sleeving, our UV resistant version offers:
Excellent long-term UV resistanceThis makes it an ideal solution for manufacturers seeking long-term cable protection in outdoor and industrial applications.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What is the difference between standard PET and UV resistant PET braided sleeving?
UV resistant PET braided sleeving contains a UV stabilization system that significantly improves resistance to sunlight and outdoor weathering, helping maintain mechanical performance over extended service periods.
2. Does ISO 4892-2 represent actual outdoor lifetime?
No. ISO 4892-2 is an accelerated laboratory weathering test designed to compare material performance under controlled conditions. Actual service life depends on climate, installation environment and operating conditions.
3. Can I request the ISO 4892-2 test report?
Yes. MJ FLEX can provide the third-party ISO 4892-2 test report upon request. Please contact our sales or technical support team for more information.
